THE final full round of league match cricket before the onset of the approaching festive interlude took place at the weekend.

Quins first team played their most important match of the current season against Umzinto, at the Umzinto Country Club. The significance of this match is that whichever team lost this bottom of the table encounter would stand a chance of being demoted at season's end. However Quins accumulated 106 runs in 30, 3 overs. Dylan Labuschagne scored 25 runs and middle order batsman Herschel Lavendal top scored with 32 runs.

Umzinto were dismissed for 93 runs. Right arm wrist spinner captured three wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs and Adam Mather was best of the pace bowlers with three wickets for 14 runs in five overs. Quins 1 won by 13 runs. This was a significant victory for Quins first team in that it effectively elevates them into the lower middle section of the KZNCU stream one challenge league.

There is only one match remaining for Quins Cricket Club this year and that is a 50 over challenge league encounter against second placed Clare's at Asherville on Sunday 14 December. The club hopes that their flagship team's narrow victory against Umzinto will serve as a catalyst for motivation against a formidable Clare's team.
