Karate girls aim for gold

SKISA girls are 'going for gold' at the Kanazawa Cup this weekend.

SKISA girls, who are all KZN caps, have been working around the clock preparing for the forthcoming Kanazawa Cup tournament scheduled for 30 April.

KSA multiple national champion Riasha Singh, mentor of the SKISA fighters, expressed her confidence in the team. “We are going for gold,” she said.

Protea coach Brando Pillay, who hosts regular coaching courses for the SKISA champions, said the SKISA female champs are “fighting fit” and their hard work will pay dividends at the Kanazawa cup on Saturday.

SKISA tournament director Hanshi Sonny Pillay, said a record crowd is expected at the annual karate showpiece with teams from all nine provinces expected to do battle in the “best of the best” at the prestigious event.

“The tournament that attracts the top fighters from around the republic always provides thrills, spills and chills for competitors and spectators, therefore I urge all karate enthusiasts to attend this very exciting karate tournament,” said Pillay.

Special guest at the karate gathering will be visiting Japanese maestro Manabu Murakami, twice world champion, who is expected to give a demonstration at the Kanazawa Cup showing his latest fighting techniques.
