Class of 2024 earns mixed results

The Class of 2024 achieved an average 87.3% pass rate nationally.

Hoërskool Oosterlig
Hoërskool Oosterlig’s Class of 2024 achieved a 98.5% pass rate, increasing from last year’s 95.42%.
A total of 201 matriculants at the school sat for their National Senior Certificate exams, and the school flew high with 222 distinctions.
Some 76.7% of learners passed with bachelor’s passes, while 17.4% attained diploma passes.

“This is an improvement from 2023, but we are still striving for a 100% pass rate. Overall, we are proud of our learners and satisfied with the results,” said principal Christi Myburgh.

Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen
Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen achieved a 98.5% pass rate, increasing from last year’s 97.9%.

Of the learners who wrote the 2024 exams, 62% passed with bachelor’s passes and 25% attained diploma passes.
The school saw 79 distinctions.

Acting principal Freek Erasmus said, “We are satisfied with the results. The learners worked hard. I must also congratulate the staff. These matriculants had a difficult time because they were in Grade Eight during the Covid-19 pandemic. We wish the learners all the best for the future.”

Hoërskool Voortrekker High
Hoërskool Voortrekker High achieved a 97.8% pass rate, increasing from last year’s 96.2%.
Of the 189 learners who wrote the exams, 59.19% passed with bachelor’s passes and 30% with diploma passes.

“We congratulate our Grade 12 group of 2024 on their results. We are proud to say that our Bachelor’s pass rate has increased. More importantly, our pass rate has increased, allowing more learners an opportunity to study further and create a better future. 2025 is a new year in which we look forward to new results. We wish all our Grade 12 learners from 2024 the best for their futures,” said principal Alfri Black.

Boksburg High School
Boksburg High School recorded a pass rate of 94.3%, declining from last year’s 96.6%.

Of the 282 registered learners, 280 wrote the exams, with 264 passing. The breakdown of the results shows that 66% achieved a Bachelor’s pass, 26.1% a diploma pass and 7.6% a higher certificate.

Principal Enoch Thango had mixed feelings about the results.
“While I would have loved us to achieve 100%, I also understand where this class comes from – two years of rotation in grades Eight and Nine during the Covid-19 epidemic.”
He thanked the staff for their dedication throughout the year in preparing the learners for the exams.

Thango emphasised the need to improve the maths and physical sciences results for 2025, noting that other subjects performed well, with seven achieving a 100% pass rate and others exceeding 90%. Among the learners, Maseeha Seedat earned seven distinctions, while four others attained four each, bringing the total number of distinctions to 99.

Balmoral College
The Class of 2024 earned this school an overall pass rate of 98.9%, a slight drop from previous back-to-back 100% pass rates.
Of the 90 learners who sat for the final exams, 82 (91%) attained Bachelor’s passes. Overall, the school had 40 As, 151 Bs and 170 Cs.
The school management congratulated the Grade 12s.

Oos Rand School of Specialisation
The recently launched Oos Rand Commerce and Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation received an 81.6% pass rate, dropping from last year’s 84.3%.

Of the 250 learners who sat for the exams, 204 passed. Among them were 32 progressed learners. These learners failed the same grade at least twice and were subsequently pushed through to the next grade. Some concerned community members believe it could have significantly impacted the township’s matric pass rate.

Sunward Park High School

A total of 406 learners participated in the examination, with 262 achieving a bachelor’s pass, representing a rate of 66.16%. Additionally, 110 learners passed with a diploma, accounting for 27.77%, while 24 learners earned
a high certificate pass, which is 6.06%. Overall, the school achieved a pass rate of 97.53%. Nadia Walljee, the deputy principal, expressed her pride in the learners’ accomplishments and extended her best wishes for their
future endeavours

Reiger Park High School
This school achieved a pass rate of 68.2%, declining from the previous 76.6% pass rate. Of the 242 who sat for the final exams, only 165 passed, so 77 learners failed. There were 13 progressed learners in the Class of 2024.
