Beyond the call of duty: Reiger Park’s top-performing officer rewarded
He was awarded at the ninth SAPS National Excellence Awards ceremony.
Sergeant Lufuno Mudzuli, who is the holder of the Gauteng Province SAPS’ Man of the Year title, was recognised as one of the top-performing officers in the SAPS National Excellence Awards held on February 16.
Going beyond the call of duty earned Mudzuli the Man of the Year second runner-up accolade in the awards. The overall winner of the category is Sergeant Kodwa from the Eastern Cape.
Mudzuli’s tenure in the SAPS is marked by unwavering commitment and a profound sense of duty while serving as a sector manager for Sectors 3 and 4.
He was recognised for his exceptional ability to synchronise effectively with his team.
He has successfully resolved critical situations and crimes. Mudzuli was also praised for implementing various structures such as the CPF Sub-Forum, CPF Women Desk, CPF patrollers, street committees, and the Neighbourhood Watch.
He has gone beyond the call of duty by starting a community garden, providing vegetables for disadvantaged families, and founding an NPO with a soup kitchen for children.
As a proactive contributor, Mudzuli has also initiated sports against crime and consistently plans projects aimed at reducing crime and addressing gender-based violence through women empowerment campaigns.

Mudzuli told this publication that the love for his job has in the course of his 19-year career in the SAPS been motivating him to always strive for excellence, dedication and commitment in the execution of his daily duties.
He has received several accolades from different institutions for his service. These include the Social Development’s 365 Man of the Year award, which recognises men for their good work in the fight against GBV.
“For all the years when carrying out my duties within the community, I picked up a number of social ills that I was able to tackle as a police officer. However, some were outside of my competence, hence I decided to form an organisation that will be able to zoom in on those issues and address them,” explained Mudzuli.
“When I go to work I know what is expected of me, and I always make sure that I give my best.”
