Women lead Dawn Park’s Basadi Operation
The Dawn Park SAPS held its second women-led Basadi Operation to improve safety and encourage women to consider careers in law enforcement.
The Dawn Park SAPS held its second multi-disciplinary Basadi Operation, led by women in law enforcement, on August 13.
Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, the spokesperson, stated that the operation involved roadblocks, stop-and-search procedures, and enhanced visibility in key areas of the precinct.
“The operation involved the SAPS, traffic and enforcement, the EMPD, the CPF, and Youth Development teams working in collaboration to keep the community safe.
“August, being Women’s Month, made the Basadi Operation particularly significant. It pays tribute to women who dedicated their lives to ensuring equal rights for women and acknowledges past and ongoing discrimination in society.
“The operation encouraged women to consider law enforcement as a career, showcasing the leadership and impact of women in policing.”

Mabula said as part of the operation, they held a door-to-door campaign at Sunrock in Klipoortjie, focusing on house robbery prevention.
“Residents received pamphlets with safety tips and information on mitigating crime in their homes.
“A roadblock and stop-and-search were done on Rondebult Road to identify and deter criminal activity. After that, teams moved to Windmill Park to do visibility checks and ensure compliance regarding second-hand goods, a measure to curb the sale of stolen items.
“Acting station commander Captain Ellen Masetlane oversaw the operation, ensuring high-crime areas were thoroughly checked.”
