Young gun celebrates win at the SA championships
Mostert, a learner at Laerskool Goudrand, won his Gauteng title in October last year.
Gauteng amateur champion Justin Mostert was recently crowned champion of the country following a unanimous decision win at the SA Championships in Welkom.
Boksburg’s Thunder Boxing Academy trainee’s win, who boxes in the 36kg division, was so clear cut that all five judges handed the decision to him.
Meanwhile, Mostert’s stablemate, Ruben Janse van Rensburg, has been included in the Gauteng team that will participate in the Open Boxing League (OBL), as a reserve.
The league gets underway next month. Gauteng won the league, which includes all provinces, last year.
Furthermore, he participated in the SA Elite Championships in Secunda in July and received his Gauteng colours. He finished fourth.
On another front, Aston Holl, also a student at Thunder Boxing Academy, has his work cut out for him this year. The 16-year-old won the Ekurhuleni title last year before going on to lose in the Gauteng Championships in the latter part of the year.
Aston, who also won the Gauteng title in 2017, settled for a fourth-place finish at the South African Championships in September of last year.
The Thunder Boxing Academy, which is a little over two years old, has already produced six Ekurhuleni belts, five Gauteng championships and a single SA title.
The mentioned triumvirate is under the tutelage of respected trainer and Ruben’s father, Riaan.
“I’m a proud coach who gets emotional when his fighters fight,” commented the ever passionate mentor.
“I believe in respect, discipline and hard work.” – @SabeloBoksburg
