Miss SA supports Casual Day

Miss South Africa 2014, Rolene Strauss, continued a 20-year tradition by showing her support for Casual Day.

Strauss recently visited a school for children with disabilities and found a special place for her Casual Day sticker.

By lending her voice to those of the millions of South Africans who participate in Casual Day, she is making a big impact on the lives of persons with disabilities all over the country.

A fourth year medical student, Strauss is passionate about health and women and really enjoyed interacting with the children at Alma School in Pretoria, which provides education, physiotherapy, transport and assistive devices to children with cerebral palsy, intellectual and physical disabilities.

“By adding her support to Alma School’s Casual Day campaign, Rolene will be helping them meet their financial targets,” said project leader Celeste Vinassa.

Although many schools with disabilities receive some financial assistance from government, the extra funds they raise through Casual Day really makes a huge difference in the services they can render.

Casual Day, which will take place on Friday, September 5, is South Africa’s most successful fundraising project for persons with disabilities.

The amount raised for last year has climbed to R24.8-million.

Sponsored by The Edcon Group, Casual Day is the flagship project of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA), which this year celebrates 75 years of service to the community of persons with disabilities.

This year’s theme is Bring out the Bling.

The beneficiaries of Casual Day are National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA, South African National Council for the Blind, South African Federation for Mental Health, Deaf Federation of South Africa, Autism South Africa, Down Syndrome South Africa, National Association for Persons with Cerebral Palsy, South African National Deaf Association, National Institute for the Deaf, Alzheimer’s South Africa, South African Disability Alliance and QuadPara Association of South Africa.

Stickers are available from Edgars, Jet, JetMart, Boardmans, CNA, Red Square, Legit, Absa outlets, Game and DionWired stores, and Shoprite and Checkers stores.

The Casual Day national office can be contacted on 011 609 7006.
