Daily crime watch

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (April 4 to 5):

Cases reported:

• Contravention of Second-hand Goods Act: 3
• Hijacking: 1
• Residential burglary: 1
• Common assault: 1
• Fraud: 3
• Inquest: 1
• Possession of drugs: 1
• Theft: 2

Arrests:

• Possession of drugs: 1
• Dealing in drugs: 3

Hijacking:

• The driver of a silver Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie was robbed of his vehicle by the occupants of a silver Mercedes-Benz with blue lights.

While driving along the R23 (Heidelberg Road), near Koot Street, at 9.20pm on Wednesday, the man and his passenger noticed a car with flashing blue lights behind them.

The driver pulled over, thinking it was the police, and was approached by four men who asked why he had skipped the stop street.

The men demanded the victim’s car keys and then forced him into the backseat.

The hijackers drove the pair to Zonkizizwe in Katlehong where they were forced out of the bakkie.

Their hands were bound with shoelaces and the driver was pistol-whipped.

The hijackers drove off in the bakkie, also taking cellphones and a briefcase containing personal documents.

Burglary:

• McKenzie Street, Brakpan North.

The break-in took place yesterday (Thursday).

Stolen: Two TVs, a speaker and other household items were found abandoned on the property. It is not specified whether anything else was stolen.

An unknown vehicle was also found abandoned on the property.
