Brakpan police salute service of long-serving officer

Captain Mavhungu Samuel Ndou is retiring after almost four decades in the SAPS.

Brakpan SAPS management saw it fit to bid farewell to one of their own in style.

The brief and intimate ceremony honouring Captain Mavhungu Samuel Ndou, who is retiring at the end of the month with 39 years’ service under his belt, was held in the police station’s boardroom on Monday. Attendees enjoyed a light meal and soft drinks.

Ndou graduated from the SAPS Tshwane Academy, and started his career in Musina, Limpopo, on March 7, 1986.  He rose through the ranks and was promoted to captain while stationed at Dunnottar SAPS.  In 2015, Ndou joined Brakpan SAPS and was the Sector 1 manager, but later moved to shift duties.

“He is retiring as a member in good standing. Colleagues uttered statements of love, peace, great leadership, and described him as a listener, while others portrayed him as a father figure,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.

Asked how he survived 39 years in the police service, Ndou replied, “Never seek to know who your enemy is.”

He further advised his colleagues to avoid people who come to them with gossip, saying they will ruin you. Ndou was presented with a gift and a large card filled with well wishes from his colleagues. His last official day at the police station will be April 30.
