Brakpan SAPS executes major crime operation for Women’s Month
Roadblocks, arrests and compliance checks marked an impactful operation led by women officers to reinforce law and order.
In honour of Women’s Month, Brakpan SAPS Vispol support head Lieutenant Colonel Pearl van Staad spearheaded a high-visibility crackdown supported by multiple agencies, highlighting women’s leadership in law enforcement.
The operation was held on Friday. Parade took place at Carnival City, and Ekurhuleni District operational commander Colonel Allistair Subramanian supported the local officers.
During the parade, he encouraged women in law enforcement to be at the forefront and lead by example. He further advised men to support their female colleagues and to treat them with utmost respect, not only during the month of August, but always.
The operation comprised stakeholders in law enforcement, and women were put on the forefront to commemorate Women’s Month.
A roadblock was erected along the R23 (Heidelberg Road), near the R554 intersection, and led by Van Staad. The liquor and second-hand goods compliance team was led by Sergeant Simangele Kunene, and the CDPA team was led by Captain Nape Magane.

“The anticipated busy month-end Friday was stabilised by the high visibility of law enforcement officers within the precinct,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
“Motor vehicles were stopped and searched, and public drinking, public indecency, and loitering were harshly reprimanded.
“Hotspots were prioritised, as well as shopping centres and ATMs. People were stopped and searched. Three unlicensed liquor outlets were closed, three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, four suspects were arrested for drunk driving, and two suspects were arrested for illegal immigration.
