It is with sadness that I read the article in the Herald dated July 12, about the injured horse and it not being the first one either! (Price of carelessness).
If you are keeping animals, then surely the onus is on you to make sure they are safe and protected. Why keep animals like these in a residential area? Brenthurst has been a major problem until a while back, due to roaming animals.
I am including pictures of some of the animals we have had roaming or being allowed to graze in the open area between Duncan and Pienaar streets.
Fortunately this problem is quiet at the moment.
Not only did it cause an uproar with all the dogs in the area, but my concern was that they would head straight for Prince George Avenue.
Another problem is that some people are dumping their rubbish in the veld, too, and the animals stand a risk of injury while grazing in the area.
Even a dead cat was dumped in the veld, in a black bag, recently.
Speaking to one of the offenders doesn’t help either, and they continue dumping their rubbish there.
There has also been a big problem with quad bikes in the same area for over a year now.
The constant noise becomes really irritating as it can carry on daily for hours on end. These children sometimes have a younger child standing on the back of the bike while they race up the street and back over the pavements and then take another one for a ride.
Helmets are not always worn either.
