Accident sees fight called off
“I woke up to the most terrible news that any athlete could ever receive."
The much anticipated EFC flyweight title unification bout and co-main event between former Brakpan Wrestling Club star, resident and interim champion JP Buys and the reigning flyweight champion, Nkazimulo “Zuluboy” Zulu at EFC 57 at Carnival City on March 4 will no longer take place.
This comes after Buys’ scheduled opponent was hit by a car while busy with his morning run in preparation for his fight. The accident took place on Tuesday, January 31.
He was rushed to Bertha Gxowa Hospital and treated for an injury to his leg/hip.
The injury has forced Zulu to withdraw from the Buys bout.
Following the incident, Buys said: “I woke up to the most terrible news that any athlete could ever receive.
“My opponent got hit by a car in his preparation for our upcoming fight in March.
“I wish you a speedy recovery, Nkazimulo Zulu.
“Hopefully we can make the fight happen soon.
“You’re a true warrior and I know that you’ll be back in no time.”
