Govt spend boosts building, transport

Indications are that government's commitment to spending more on South Africa's creaking infrastructure is having an effect on demand for transport and construction equipment in particular says Park Village Auctions (PVA).

“That at least would partly explain why our latest auctions of this kind are doing so well,” says PVA’s LeRoy Augustyn, whose comments set the tone for the company’s next auction on September 26 at 10.30am at PVA’s truck yard at Nasrec. Viewing will take place on September 25 from 10am to 4pm.

The inventory at the upcoming sale includes a good selection of rigid trucks, truck tractors and LDVs, trailers, farming and earthmoving equipment.

“The majority of our heavy-duty trucks and truck tractors are snatched up fast. Maybe the market is telling us something? We’ve put it down to more activity from government on the roads, pipelines, dams, rail networks and the like. It’s also possible demand is being buoyed by the private construction sector. The fact that a number of graders, rollers and excavators achieved excellent prices at our last auction points to a recovery in this sector which bodes well for ancillary services and equipment,” says Augustyn.

The auction includes a fleet of Toyota Dyna 4-093 and 8-145, Hino 500, 300 and 17-257, Mercedes Benz Axor, Actros, Mitsubishi Fuso, MAN TGA 33.360, Nissan UD 440, Iveco and Tata 1518 among others. The trailer stock comprises SA Truck Bodies, Hendred, Afrit, Motor Trail, flat deck link trailers, skeletal, curtain side trailer and side tipper trailers. A farming tractor will also be auctioned alongside skidsteer loaders, excavators and backhoe loaders.
