Gupta brothers miss deadline with Indian tax authorities – report

The controversial brothers have been given seven more days to present themselves.

The Gupta brothers, Atul‚ Ajay and Rajesh, have reportedly missed another deadline on Monday to appear before Indian tax authorities.

This after their properties were raided in India earlier this month by the Income Tax (I-T) department and several documents of transactions reportedly worth millions of dollars were seized. The tax officials are believed to be investigating money-laundering allegations, and have already attached about 30 properties belonging to the Guptas.

According to a report by The Times of India, the brothers were given seven more days to present themselves before the tax authorities after they sent their representative seeking to delay their appearance.

“The Gupta brothers would have to answer the notices sent to them otherwise the department will follow procedures,” a senior tax official was quoted as saying.

“All the properties would remain attached till the time the proceedings are going on against them,” the official added.

The Guptas were reportedly in Saharanpur, northern India, in February, and were last seen in Dehradun before they moved to Dubai.

Their next date to present themselves before tax authorities is now April 2.
