Motorists are urged to be vigilant as suspects in an unmarked vehicle allegedly extort money while posing as law enforcement officers.
The JMPD issued a warning to motorists in the Regents Park area regarding a potential scam involving individuals impersonating members of their Traffic and Road User Management (TRU) unit.
There have been reports of a white Toyota Hilux Twin Cab with registration number LL 24 DJ being used by individuals claiming to be JMPD or SAPS officers.
The suspects, described as two African women and two African men, are allegedly stopping motorists and searching their vehicles, and extorting money under threat. The vehicle is reportedly unmarked, with no police stickers.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the department is concerned about the safety of residents due to police impersonators.
“An investigation will take place. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious police vehicles,” said Fihla.
