Top Billing’s Lorna Maseko facing ‘uphill battle’ with her bakery

The presenter/businesswoman reportedly owes R745K for her Sandton restaurant to the previous owner.

Former ballerina and close friend of Bonang Matheba Lorna Maseko is reportedly facing a court challenge for R745 000 she allegedly owes on her Morningside restaurant, The Bread Basket.

The restaurant’s previous owner is reportedly suing her for the money in the High Court in Johannesburg for “failing to pay the purchase price”, according to a City Press report.

Maseko’s restaurant was opened in December, and is part of a franchise owned by Famous Brands.

She reportedly did not deny owing the money, but said little more.

A friend told the paper that Maseko had not realised the restaurant had allegedly been in a poor state when she paid for it.

She said that “machines had been broken” and “a lot of work had to be done in the restaurant”.

She cautioned people against laughing at Maseko.

“…as black people we must help her to be a successful entrepreneur”.

In a recent Instagram post of her at her restaurant, she wrote: “One of the bigger lessons I’ve learnt about being in the restaurant business is that you want to be behind something you’re proud of. Months in the making but what a ride to own @thebreadbasketmorningside.

“We hosted our first media champagne breakfast- one of many to come.

“My deli/bistro has improved in many ways than one and we can’t wait to see you for a freshly baked croissant or other delicious goodies we have on offer.”
