Afrika spreads her wings

Veteran radio host Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp has quit her job at Kfm.

As the presenter of the station’s weekday lunchtime show, Elana has been a well-known voice on SA radio for many years, starting off as a presenter on Jacaranda 94.2 FM and later co-hosting the weekday breakfast show on 5FM.

She is, however, also a well-known face on South African small screens and currently co-hosts SABC3’s breakfast programme ‘Expresso’.

Confirming news of her resignation, Elana revealed that she’s not quitting radio indefinitely but just cutting down the time she spends on air.

“I am not hanging up my headphones,” she said, according to the Daily Voice.

“I love viewers and my listeners. Doing a daily TV and radio show has been wonderful, you will still hear my voice on the radio, just not every day.”

According to the publication, 2014 is set to be a very busy one for Elana, who will launch a make-up range, TV project, and wine label next year.

“Elana’s show has been a great part of the station’s line-up and she has a great connection with our listeners,” said Kfm station manager, Colleen Louw.

“We wish Elana the best with her future endeavours and will be exploring… her possible involvement with the station in the future.”
