American Rapper Mos Def arrested in Cape Town

The rapper has lived in South Africa for the last few years.

Rapper Dante Terrell Smith, better known by his stage name Mos Def, has been confirmed as the American rapper appearing in Bellville Magistrates’ Court in Cape Town on Friday for possession of illegal documents after living in South Africa for the last few years.

Mos Def was reportedly arrested at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday as he was about to depart from the country for breaking the laws of the Immigrations Act.

Home Affairs ministerial spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete said on Twitter, the rapper and his family have been given 14 days to leave the country.

Tshwete said Mos Def came into South Africa with a legitimate United States passport but had since overstayed his visitors’ permit.
