Just water on business class? Pearl Thusi not happy with British Airways

By Sandisiwe Mbhele

Tell us you are not rich without telling us you are rich. Pearl Thusi laid bare her dismay at the services she received during her flight on business class on British Airways.

The actress posted her rant on Instagram stories and thanks to social media, the video has not disappeared.

Thusi recounted her R6,000 flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town and tagging British Airways during her rant, she claimed they only served her sparkling and still water in business class.

“SAA is serving food even if it’s still tricky, Airlink is serving food, also tricky but it’s there. British Airways is charging 6k for business class and all you get is water.”

Thusi then added more competitors to her argument, saying Kulula and Mango would have had a “spaza moment” if she paid that much.

“But here we are thinking we cute on business class but we are suffering.”

Eventually, Thusi was served something other than water – Coca-Cola.

According to the British Airways website, consuming food and drink is allowed.

The airline’s Covid-19 protocols read in part: “You’re allowed to remove your face mask for a reasonable time to enable you to eat or drink. When food and drink is not being consumed, the face mask must be placed back on and must cover the nose and mouth at all times.”

Thusi may have not read the terms and conditions before making her booking. People can pre-order and pre-pay meals from the speciality menu when booking their flights.

But then the website says their previous pre-order and pre-pay services are temporarily suspended. Meals and a snack are served for domestic and international travel and different menu offerings depending on the private membership program a person is signed up to.

With all of this, social media users cared more about why Thusi paid R6,000 for a flight to Cape Town.
