Linda Mtoba opens up about Isibaya wedding dress drama

Linda Mtoba shares her thoughts on the Minnie Dlamini 'copycat' wedding dress saga.

All eyes were on Linda Mthoba’s Isibaya character, Zama Ngwenya, on the latest episode of the Mzansi Magic show.

Zama finally married the man of her dreams, Jabu Zungu (played by Pallance Dladla).

Viewers were glued to their screens to get a glimpse of Zama’s wedding dress, which was the talk of social media before the episode aired on Friday.

The dress made headlines earlier this month, after pictures from a wardrobe fitting showed Linda wearing a dress similar to the one Minnie Dlamini wore to her umembeso last year.

While many agreed that Linda looked gorgeous in the “copycat” version, the woman who designed Minnie’s dress was not impressed. Asanda Madyibi accused the show of plagiarism and did not appear to like the dress they created one bit.

“Speechless! They say imitation is the highest form of flattery! Is this flattering? In the history of south african television production weddings I have never seen such!” she wrote on Instagram.

But Linda’s character didn’t end up wearing the dress pictured on social media, as it was just one of the many wardrobe options the show was considering.

Linda says she tried on several dresses, and the final decision was not up to her.

“I had to try so many different outfits just to get the right one. It does get tricky; you just keep trying them on until you find the one that everyone likes,” Linda told Sowetan Live in an interview before Friday’s episode.

Linda says she was not a fan of the gold embellished halter dress her character ended up wearing.

“It’s a challenge because I don’t decide that and it’s a matter of production being happy … It’s a beautiful gold dress – simple and regal. It’s something that I would not wear as Linda; it’s just not my style.
