PICS: South African celebs slayed their Halloween costumes

South Africans such as Trevor Noah and Pearl Thusi have been lambasted for celebrating Halloween but there's no denying how great they looked.

While the rest of you were arguing about whether or not Halloween has a place in South Africa, famous faces such as Pearl Thusi, Mihlali Ndamase and YouTuber Lee Khuzwayo were slaying their Halloween looks.

What is Halloween?

Halloween is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, marking the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day.

Certain academics believe Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, being the vigil of All Hallow’s Day. It was reportedly celebrated in Ireland and Scotland for centuries before Irish and Scottish migrants brought many Halloween customs to North America in the 19th century.

Thanks to American influence and cultural imperialism, Halloween spread to other countries by the late 20th and early 21st century.

Do we celebrate Halloween in South Africa?

The simple answer is yes and no. That is because the celebration is open to anyone who wishes to do so and South Africans sure do love a good party.
