Tennis star Serena Williams announces second pregnancy

Retired tennis player Serena Williams is expecting her second baby. The star shared the exciting news at the Met Gala on Monday.

Congratulations are in order for the retired legendary tennis player Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian. Serena revealed in a recent Instagram post and at the Met Gala that they are expecting their second bundle of joy.

Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” she wrote, announcing the exciting news.

Met Gala appearance

Themed Karl Lagerfeld: Line of Beauty this year, The Met Gala was hosted in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on 1 May.

Serena graced the red carpet wearing a black Gucci outfit alongside her husband, who was rocking the Gucci tuxedo.

“Karl never disappoints with his designs, so we’re both just so happy to be here and get inside, and not drink,” Serena said, giving a shout out to the legendary German designer, Karl Lagerfeld.

Congratulatory messages flood in for Serena Williams

Following her big reveal, fans and other celebrities have flooded social media platforms with congratulatory messages for the retired tennis star.

“You are so stunning! Congratulations!! Thank you for being such a strong role model for my daughters and really for us!” @jacquiemb wrote on Instagram.

Serena’s first born

The tennis star gave birth to her first-born daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian JR in September 2017, a year after she married her tech mogul husband, Alexis, in a Rome ceremony. In her previous interview with Vogue, Serena said she has always wanted to be a mother. She added: “We are not spending a day apart until she is eighteen”.

Tennis retirement

In August 2022, Serena announced that she was officially retiring from tennis, sharing that it has been difficult for her to come to terms with her departure from the sport. She also shared she wanted to focus on growing her family and her venture capital firm called Serena Ventures.

“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people.

“Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” she told Vogue.
