Thobela FM confirms the passing of JJ Menu

Tributes are pouring in for Thobela FM radio host Johanna Seboishi Seloga aka JJ Menu who passed away at the age of 39 on Monday.


The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) Limpopo-based radio station Thobela FM has confirmed the passing of its presenter Johanna Seboishi Seloga on Monday in hospital following an illness.

Seloga, who was popularly known as JJ Menu, presented the children’s programme Lesang Bana on Sundays from 7am to 8am. She was also a producer of the programme Moremogolo.

According to the public broadcaster, she joined Thobela FM in 2007 and presented many other shows, including Thoba Matswalo and Remmogo.

Details about JJ Menu’s passing have not been shared. However, SABC has extended its condolences to the family and colleagues, adding that her presence on-air and at the station will be missed.

Limpopo Combo business manager Madikana Matjila said many children have lost a “servant”.

“We all are hurt by JJ’s passing and wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family and all our listeners. We hurt also that millions of children and families have lost a servant, as JJ delivered with passion our children’s religions programming, as well as our all-time favourite Moremogolo where she served as a producer.

“We wish to lastly thank all our listeners for sending us their messages of support in this difficult time.”

Tributes pour in for JJ Menu

After learning about her passing, many people have taken to their social media pages to share heartfelt tributes to the radio host.

One netizen wrote on X: “JJ was not only a mother to her biological children, but was also a mother to the [less fortunate] and the downtrodden. The listeners of @ThobelaFMYaka are shattered by the news of the passing of Johanna ‘JJ’ Menu, who had an unmatched commitment to the people of this station. #RIPJJMenu”

Another one shared: “I passed by the SABC studios in Limpopo way back on Sunday. She was doing her show, and the moment she saw us, she smiled and waved her hands to us with that gentle, loving smile on her face. RIP, my dear, SABC, more particularly @ThobelaFMYaka has lost an angel”.

She leaves behind her two children.
