WATCH: ‘Five million’ for lobola? Thato Mosehle’s dad seems to think so

Pageant queen Thato Mosehle thinks the gesture of lobola matters more than the price that most people set when getting married.

Wedding preparations are underway in the Mosehle household just weeks after pageant queen Thato Mosehle and her mystery partner made the decision to get married.

Mosehle, who competed in the Miss South Africa pageant in 2020, confirmed her engagement on social media last month. The model also took part in Miss Supranational 2021 and was crowned second runner-up.

She has been sharing a little bit more of her life with her followers since her engagement and recently shared a cute video on her Instagram stories of her lobola banter with her dad.

She seems to have asked him his opinion on how much lobola is enough, to which he responded “five million”. She then asked if he thinks he could ever get paid that amount, adding that it was too much.

Mosehle said not even the royal family could get that much for Queen Elizabeth if they accepted lobola, to which he responded: “It’s not that much, they [the royal family] should have charged R30 million for Queen Elizabeth.”

He then asked her how much she thinks is enough and she said R80,000 was fair.

She followed up her videos of their exchange with videos of her own opinion.

“Remember, you cannot put a price on anyone’s life and lobola is not meant to sell the girl, it’s just like, a gesture. You cannot put a price on anyone,” said Mosehle.

“The only price that can pay for me is the blood of Jesus and we don’t know when Jesus is coming back. We cannot expect people to break their backs in the name of lobola based on whatever calculations or algorithms people think you’re worth because we can never reach the price,” she added.

“Just make it reasonable as a gesture so that you can be happy.”
