WATCH: Johnny Depp won’t make another Pirates of the Caribbean film

Depp has sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation

Johnny Depp is currently involved in court proceedings after he sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation.

The Aquaman actress is countersuing.

During cross-examination earlier this week, lawyer Ben Rottenborn questioned Depp’s claim that an op-ed Heard wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she described herself as a victim of domestic abuse, had led to him potentially losing his role in the Disney swashbuckler franchise Pirates of the Caribbean.

This video is no longer available.

“Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife beater. So I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe,” said Depp.

Depp testified that the Pirates of the Caribbean project remains in “dangle mode”.

He also said he no longer has a desire to feature in the films.

The reason for this, said Depp, is the reaction of the Disney bosses after Heard’s allegations surfaced.

“They didn’t remove my character from the rides. They didn’t stop selling dolls of Captain Jack Sparrow… They just didn’t want there to be something trailing behind me that they’d find,” he said.
