The weekend trends list were mostly hogged by Nigerian musician Burna Boy who refused succumb to the pressure from South Africans, along with AKA, to apologise for, among other reasons, threatening AKA.
Burna Boy took to social media a few weeks back and vowed to never set foot in South Africa again unless our government performed a miracle to rectify the xenophobic attacks.
Apart from the apology from President Cyril Ramaphosa to Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari, there seems to be no miracle performed, and South Africans were quick to remind Burna Boy that following the announcement he would be headlining the Africans Unite concert set to take place next week.

Responding to the criticism on Saturday, Burna Boy said anyone against his performance would have to kill him to stop him from coming to South Africa.
He said: “Saying I mislead people? And I made up the xenophobic attacks and I should apologise. Really? Lol. In 2015 even I was a victim of the misguided hate so I know. Go and demand apologies from your REAL enemies. I am not your enemy. I will not be called ‘foreigner’. I am AFRICAN.”
The hashtag #BurnaBoyMustVoetsek trended as a result.
In other news, Luyolo won Idols SA season 15 on Sunday, in a show that saw Sho Madjozi, DJ Zinhle and Rethabile, Boity, Vusi Nova and Samthing Soweto entertaining the crowd.
Samthing Soweto trended for his disappointing performance, which he fortunately apologised for later on.
He said: “Askies. I’m really sorry. I really don’t have an excuse. It’s just one of those days. Hopefully, I get a chance to redeem myself. ”
While the Idols SA final results seem to have left most South Africans happy, it, however, sparked yet another debate on tribalism after some repeated Unathi Nkayi’s “joke” that the Eastern Cape carried South Africa this year. Some were opposed to this opinion and cried tribalism. The word has been trending since, with some arguing pointing out that this year’s Miss SA, Springbok captain, and Idols SA winners were from the Eastern Cape.
“These are for Eastern Cape to celebrate. We’re the poorest province, the worst matric results. When people speak about the EC, it is rarely positive. Therefore, the fact that the World Cup-winning coach and captain, Idols winner, Miss SA are from the EC has to be celebrated.
“We are not diminishing anyone, but celebrating what we produce despite the odds we face as a province. I hope people can see that and not look at it as a narrow provincial view. We are proud of our country but also of the places that have been given no chance that we come from,” said Khaya Dlanga.

It seems businessman Sam Mshengu took his own advice and refrained from flashing his wedding on social media after silently tying the knot on Saturday at Zimbali Resort.
Mshengu gained the spotlight after leading a 72-car convoy to this year’s Durban July, which seems to have brought nothing but trouble for him. Following his arrest, he advised social media to refrain from publicising their achievements as there were jealous people watching.
The 23-year-old married his long-time partner Lerato Legodi in a private ceremony.
The couple got engaged in May this year in front of close family and friends.
Itumeleng Khune also trended for finally marrying girlfriend Siphelele Makhunga. Taking to social media on Sunday, Makhunga posted a picture of herself and wrote: “Thank you” to her now husband.
In response, Khune wrote: “My Wifey Bear.”
