Boity, Dineo and Thando are the golden girls

Television presenter Dineo Moeketsi is the leading lady in the upcoming film Golden Highway. She plays Gugu, a down-to-earth girl who has given up on the idea of finding true love.

Radio DJ and actress Thando Thabethe plays Moeketsi’s best friend Anna, who tries to convince her to keep searching for Mr Right. Boity Thulo plays the third friend.

Unlike many productions that feature “It” girls, Thabethe says there is no cattiness or jealousy on set.

“I’ve worked with Dineo and Boity before and we’ve always had a lot of fun. Everyone is very professional – we work hard and learn from each other.”

All three girls have made great strides in their careers this year. Thabethe joined 5FM as a radio host earlier this year, and was announced as the presenter of the SABC1 DJ show 1’s and 2’s launched in July. She also landed a large endorsement deal with a skincare product.

“I’m a firm believer in hard work and in having respect for your craft,” says Thabethe. “A lot of people in the industry tend to get caught up in the hype about themselves. It’s important for young actors to work hard and focus on the things in the entertainment industry that actually pay the bills.”

Golden Highway is Moeketsi’s first leading role in a film, but the television presenter has been very busy this year.

Moeketsi is the co-host of Mzansi Magic’s Our Perfect Proposal. The show, in which ordinary people plan extraordinary proposals, puts Moeketsi in the middle of many love stories.

Golden Highway tells the ultimate love story, explains Thabethe. “There is something very appealing about love stories, and with this film, I think a lot of people will be able to identify.”

Thulo has also been very busy this year. The television presenter was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing SA, Reality Check, Rolling With: Celeb Edition and is currently shooting the third season of Rockville.

“I’ve always wanted to be recognised as an actress,” says Thulo. “Not a media personality or a socialite, so Rockville and Golden Highway are bringing me a step closer to my dream.”
