Movie Review: Taken 3 (trailer)
After a horrendous Taken 2, the likelihood of a third seemed dismal.
Certainly she can’t get taken again? You thought wrong, because there is – and it’s not half bad.
While it can never live up to the first instalment, which swept moviegoers off their feet, and although there is some unavoidable repetition, it nonetheless takes audiences on an action-filled adventure with some interesting twists.
Ex-government operative Bryan Mills (Neeson) is visited by his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen), who informs him of her marital problems with her current husband, Stuart St John (Dougray Scott).
When St John finds out, he warns Bryan to stay away from his wife.
The following day, Lenore is found dead in Mills’ apartment.
The police arrive to arrest him on suspicion of the murder, but he skilfully escapes their clutches and goes on a rampage to find her killer and the person trying to frame him for something he clearly didn’t do.
Always one step ahead of the LAPD, Mills retraces Lenore’s steps and recovers surveillance footage of her being abducted.
Neeson is on top form, depicting a ferociously protecive father. This is probably the most appealing aspect of the film.
Though innocent, Mills’ drive to shield his daughter overrides his commitment to the law.
If you’re looking for harmless escapism, Taken 3 provides enough thrills to keep you entertained – but beyond that it’s little more than a desperate attempt to keep cashing in on the relative success of the first instalment.
Will people come out in droves to see the film? Sure they will
