The Transporter Refuelled movie review

By Leon van Nierop

It starts with the staple food of any action franchise: Six men so scruffy they would be banished from a hijacked building in Hillbrow, approach our hero who easily overpowers them. But the hero, in this case Ed Skrein as Frank Martin, has to be even tougher because he follows in the footsteps of Jason Statham. Now there are huge number twelves to fill.

From then on all the other boxes are ticked in regular succession. Beautiful women in tight dresses that scarcely allow them room to breathe parade through the film. Add to that recipe a car that is as sexy as any Bond girl and the scene is set for explosive action.

Martin loves the car, but his dad means everything to him which makes him more human and appealing. Ed Skrein convinces and he is almost as macho and fearless as Statham – just with less chest hair.

But the highlights are the action sequences. So see it on the biggest screen you can find. Just a warning: Don’t expect any logic or realism.
