Mzansi Magic viewers bring Isibaya back to screens

The show will return to screens on Monday.

Mzansi Magic has confirmed that the popular telenovela Isibaya will return to its weekday lineup from Monday, 22 September, at 6.30pm.

The channel asked viewers to vote for their favourite shows as part of its 15th birthday celebrations.

Isibaya topped the poll with 23.1% of votes, followed by The River (15.5%) and The Queen (12.8%).

Shirley Adonisi, director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, said the series had become “more than just a TV show”.

“The show was a cultural phenomenon that had its finger on the pulse of Mzansi television. As we celebrate 15 years of Mzansi Magic, it warms our hearts to see audiences celebrating the stories that became part of their lives. This recognition belongs to our viewers, who have been with us from day one,” she added.

Isibaya: A legacy of rich storytelling

Isibaya first premiered on 18 March 2013 and ran for eight seasons until April 2021.

During its broadcast, it won more than 50 awards, including multiple South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) and Royalty Soapie Awards.

Fans will once again see the show’s beloved characters, including Bheki Mkhwane (Samson Ndlovu), Siyabonga Thwala (Mpiyakhe Zungu), Nomzamo Mbatha (Thandeka Zungu), S’dumo Mtshali (S’busiso Ndlovu), Ayanda Borotho (Phumelele Zungu), Celeste Ntuli (Siphokazi Zungu), and Thembi Nyandeni (Mkabayi Zungu).

The return also honours the legacy of former cast members Menzi Ngubane, Andile Gumbi, and Mam’ Nandi Nyembe, who remain an important part of the show’s history.
