‘Yellowjackets’ season 2 is about to answer some pressing questions

The first two episodes of season 2 of Yellowjackets drop on Showmax on 1 April 2023.

It’s been more than a year since the final episode of the multi award-winning horror-drama series Yellowjackets left viewers riveted to their television screens, craving more answers.

Your curiosity is about to be satisfied as Showmax announced on Tuesday, that the first two episodes of the hit Showtime series will be dropping on the channel on Saturday, 1 April, with new episodes following every Saturday thereafter.

This is no April Fool’s joke, with Showmax confirming that Elijah Wood will be joining the season 2 cast as Walter, a citizen detective who seems to know more than he should.

And according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the screenwriters and producers of Yellowjackets, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, have confirmed that season 3 is already in the works.

What happened in season 1 of Yellowjackets?

In season 1, we see a New Jersey high school soccer team crash into a forest enroute to a national championships game.

As the series cuts back and forth to present day, we follow the lives of some of the survivors who grapple with their secret about what really happened in the wilderness before they were rescued.

At the end of season 1, viewers were left with questions, which after being answered, spiraled into even more questions, but the new season promises to satisfy some of our curiosity.

What to expect from season 2 of Yellowjackets

In season 1, the Yellowjackets barely made it through summer, but now, as winter begins to bite, we’ll see if hunger and desperation turn into full-on psychosis.

Meanwhile, 25 years later, each survivor must determine if the darkness is coming for them or from them.

The new season sees Melanie Lynskey (Candy) back as Shauna, alongside Christina Ricci (Wednesday) in her Emmy-nominated role as Misty, multi-award winner Tawny Cypress (The Blacklist: Redemption) in her role as Taissa, and Oscar nominee Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers) as Natalie.

Their teen characters are once again portrayed by Critics Choice nominee Sophie Nélisse (The Book Thief), Samantha Hanratty (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody), Sophie Thatcher (The Book of Boba Fett), and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream, The Leftovers) in her GALECA- and Queerties-nominated role as the young Taissa.

This season also introduces Critics Choice winner Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Walter, a citizen detective who seems to know more than he should.

If season 1 got people talking, season 2 has set social media alight with speculation about the multiple mysteries at the core of the show, including whether or not there is a dark and powerful force inhabiting the wilderness.

“I love the fan theories,” Tawny told IMDb. “I love that people are imagining all these different possibilities. You’re all wrong. But keep going. It’s fun.”
