Residents bring concerns to the metro

Metro to investigate residents concerns.

The GCN recently received an email from a concerned citizen, who wishes to remain unnamed, alerting us to the illegal dumping that is taking place on Radio Road and Black Reef Road.

The email read: “I live in an estate called Albermarle Estates, located in Black Reef Road.

“There are smaller complexes within the estate.

“If you pass our complex and you enter into Radio Road, you will find a large and unsightly amount of filth, rubbish and, as a recent addition, squatters.

“There are no barriers or signs preventing people in cars from throwing/dumping their rubbish there.”

The GCN was able to contact the metro for comment.

“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality will attend to all illegal dumping in the affected area as soon as possible,” said Lebogang Ramashala, from the metro’s Department of Communications and Brand Management.

The second concern residents of the area have is the street lights in Black Reef Road.

Residents claim that, in the last six years, these street lights have been functional for less than a month in total.

“The poles are skew and the wires are hanging all over the show; this is a great concern,” said one resident.

The GCN was also able to get comment from the metro on this matter.

“The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has been to the site,” said Ramashala.

“Breakers were off and were switched back on.

“However, according to the metro’s by-laws, it is not the responsibility of the metro to maintain the lights inside the private complex.

“In Black Reef Road, towards Radio Road, a few poles are skew and need to be straightened.

“The relevant section within the Energy Department has been notified and will attend to the matter.”

The residents are eager to have their concerns dealt with, now that the metro has been notified.
