Man bribes security guard to gain access to mine

Man arrested through stakeout operation.

Members of the Primrose SAPS recently arrested a 32-year-old man for the theft of copper and unwrought precious metals.

The accused was arrested at the Rappa Holding Mine, after members of the Provincial Organised team received information that the accused had bribed the security officer in order to gain access the mine’s premises at an agreed upon time.

It is alleged he had done so in order to steal any copper or precious metals stored on the premises.

Officers arrived at the mine at 7pm, the time the accused and security guard had agreed on.

“Our officers proceeded to their stakeout position and waited for the suspect,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“At about 7.20pm officers saw the suspect on the premises.”

The man was found with 13kg of unwrought precious metals and 22.5kg of copper.

Officers arrested him and transported him to the Primrose Police Station for processing.

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for trial.
