Four illegal taverns closed

The Primrose police have continued to crack down on illegal taverns in the area.

Four illegal taverns were closed and three men were arrested as the Primrose police continued to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol in the area, recently.

The arrests were made during an operation that saw officers visit several of Primrose’s informal settlements.

Crates of alcohol were confiscated during the operation.

“We continue to experience problems with alcohol abuse in the area.

“We believe that this leads to an increase in crimes like assault, rape, domestic violence and murder, and we will continue to conduct these type of operations in the informal settlements,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The arrested suspects, aged between 34 and 53 years, appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court where they were ordered to pay an admission of guilt fine and were released with a warning.
