Alleged burglar nabbed by EMPD in Katlehong

A man was arrested for allegedly committing a burglary at Fumana High School.

EMPD officers from the Katlehong precinct received information about a man selling a laptop for R200 in Maphanga Section in Katlehong, last Tuesday at 11am.

Two officers responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect who was allegedly in possession of the property stolen from Fumana High School which was burgled the previous night.

The suspect was located in Phetheni Street and was found in possession of two large bags containing his haul which included a laptop, stationery, a trophy, 13 baseball caps, four T-shirts, network cables, electrical cords, toiletries and a computer mouse.

Stolen network cables were also found in the possession of the arrested suspect.

“The suspect, who stays a few blocks from the school, confessed to having broken into one of the offices at the school and helping himself to the items,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“The school confirmed the burglary and also positively identified the recovered items as belonging to Fumana High.”

The 24-year-old man was detained at the Katlehong North Police Station on a charge of possession of stolen goods.

He was expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
