In a continued effort to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose, officers from the Primrose Police Station recently hosted an operation in the Makause, Marathon and Delport informal settlements.
During the operation, three illegal taverns were closed down, three suspects aged between 26 and 37 years old arrested, and volumes of alcohol confiscated.

“Through foot patrols and stop-and-searches in each of the informal settlements, officers were able to discover the three illegal taverns,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
At each of the taverns, the owner was asked for their valid liquor licence and if they were unable to produce one they were arrested, charged with dealing in liquor without a licence and their establishment closed.
“We warn the community of Primrose that selling liquor without a valid licence is illegal.
“We will continue to conduct similar operations week in and week out until we win the war against the illegal sale of alcohol and gender-based violence in the informal settlements,” Maome said.
