Filled with fun and activities the elders danced and later were served lunch and refreshments.

The Red Cross supports the elderly throughout the year with cooked meals, food parcels, clothes, winter necessities and more.

Projects coordinator, Takalani Mudau, said they also had fitness exercises with aerobics and chess games among the activities.

“This is our annual closing event where we called on all the older persons under our care to gather, rejoice and mingle,” said Mudau.

“Usually we do not host the lunch at the main branch. Even when we distribute something we do it at their respective venues. But after two years of Covid-19, we thought it was better to bring them together.”

“What we normally distribute throughout the year include washing powder, scarves, maize meal, meat, potatoes, fruits and more. Jackets, slippers and hats are usually for winter,” said Mudau.

“We normally compete in sewing, chess games and sports competitions.

“We win medals and prizes. Besides that, we have programmes which keep the elderly busy throughout the year,” said Mudau.

Titus Baloyi (HR), said the ladies wish to go on a trip to Durban, but funds have been a challenge.
