Primrose athlete wins gold for 200m race

“I took first place in the 200m with a time of 22:06.”

The seventh annual OR Tambo-Soncini Social Cohesion Games held at the Kingsway Campus of the University of Johannesburg saw Calvin Kandira win the 200m U15 heat.

After winning the 200m final at the Curro Podium event in Pretoria, Kandira, a Grade Nine learner at Hoërskool Goudrif, came into the tournament with much enthusiasm.

Kandira earned gold in the 200m solo competition and the 100m 4×4 relay.

“I took first place in the 200m with a time of 22:06. I am pleased with my performance, considering I was up against some of the province’s top competitors.

“I will resume training, preparing for next year’s events on the Central Gauteng Athletics calendar and schooling events,” Kandira added.
