SPCA rescues six dogs from alleged abuse in Germiston
Germiston Bedfordview SPCA takes action against alleged animal abuse.
The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA has rescued six dogs from a property in its jurisdiction following allegations of animal cruelty and neglect.
Recently, the SPCA executed a warrant granted by the Germiston Magistrates’ Court and removed the dogs from the property after receiving reports of animals being kept in small cages and allegedly subjected to abuse.
According to the SPCA, an inspector initially visited the property following a complaint but was denied access by alleged tenants.

The property owner also failed to respond to two formal warnings requesting cooperation to allow an inspection. This led to the SPCA obtaining a warrant.
Upon inspection, officials discovered dogs believed to be kept for breeding purposes living in poor conditions. Four of the dogs were found confined inside compartments of a dog trailer without access to water.
The situation escalated the following day when two individuals arrived at the SPCA shelter demanding the return of the animals.
They later returned with the property owner, claiming the dogs had been placed in the care of a trainer for crate and obedience training.

They argued that the conditions in which the animals were found were acceptable and further alleged that the SPCA had acted outside the provisions of the Animals Protection Act.
Tensions at the shelter escalated, requiring intervention from Mamba Strike Force Security to remove the group from the premises.

SPCA staff members were reportedly threatened and harassed during the confrontation
The SPCA confirmed that criminal charges will be laid against all individuals believed to be responsible for the welfare of the dogs.
“The six dogs are now in a place of safety and receiving the care and attention they were denied,” the SPCA said.
The organisation is appealing to the public for financial assistance to help cover veterinary treatment and ongoing care costs for the rescued animals.
