Lack of driving skills kills drivers

There is nothing as annoying as watching a young, naïve and stupid young man or woman driving an expensive car without understanding what he or she is doing.

Firstly, I think it is important that young people should stop “buying” or paying driving instructors bribes to obtain their driving license.

Driving a motor car is a skill a person acquires and develops over many years of driving in different weather and road conditions, yet most young people today seem to think that driving a car is all about speeding and applying the brakes when something goes wrong. That is why they remain at the top of the list of road accident statistics.

I would like to see the department of transport introducing a law that raises the age of driving a vehicle on South Africa’s roads to at least 25. I know this may not be acceptable to many young people as it would be seen to impede on their freedom, but just imagine all the lives that could be spared in unnecessary road accident deaths?

Maybe, young people should take a little longer in learning how to properly drive a vehicle and ensure that they get the drivers’ license legally. All this may seem slightly irritating, but it could save lives.
