Obed Nkosi community protesting about construction jobs
Residents up in arms about construction company not employing local workforce.
Residents of Obed Nkosi are at this moment having a protest about the construction company (involved in the building of the next phase of houses) not employing local people.
They demand that 70% of the workforce should be from the Lesedi Local Municipal area. Isaac Mabuyane (spokesperson) says they are waiting for a councillor from Lesedi Local Municipality to come and listen to their grievances and give them feedback on what will be done to rectify the situation.
“We will stay here and not allow the construction work to continue until LLM comes back with a positive solution. Money that is earned here, are now leaving Lesedi without locals seeing a sent off it. It is not being utilized in our own area,” Mabuyane said.
Ratanda Police are keeping a close eye on the situation, but thus far it has been a peaceful protest.
