ERMELO – The recent spells of rain have accelerated the deterioration of the town’s roads.
The men who fill the potholes with sand and bricks for pocket change, are a common sight at most intersections throughout town.
Although this repairwork may provide some respite, some motorists are complaining about the poor quality of the work, which leaves sharp-edged bricks protruding out of the asphalt, which can instantly damage tyres.
A portion of De Clercq Street was patched up last week by the Jetpatcher of the Gert Sibande District Municipality, however, some larger potholes higher up in the street were left unattended.
Similarly, Church Street also has a large pothole in front of a local butchery, which necessitates cautious driving.
In order to alert drivers to the pothole and prevent them from hitting it, someone has inserted a huge metal object into the crack.
