Police spokesman for Ermelo, Capt Carla Prinsloo, said on Monday that Ermelo had experienced a relatively quiet weekend as far as crime was concerned with no serious incidents being reported.
Two cases of housebreaking while the occupants were home were, however, reported.
A teacher who lives on the premises of the Ermelo High School was woken by the sound of an alarm at about 04:00 last Thursday. When she went to investigate, she surprised two burglars in the living room of her flat. The men threatened the woman with a knife and threw an ornament at her, hitting her on the head.
The assailants stole a few items of jewellery and a cell phone and fled through a window from which they had earlier removed the burglar bars.
At around 19:30 the same day, a 20-year-old woman was accosted by three unknown men who had gained entry to her dwelling in Extension 33 by forcing open the front door. The men threatened the victim with a knife and made off with the woman’s cell phone.
Anyone with information regarding these two cases is asked to contact Lt Vilakazi at 017 819 2321 or 082 373 8389.
