Mayor treats senior citizens

"Whenever I'm faced with difficult times or challenges, old ladies are some of the people I turn to for guidance and prayer, hence they are close to my heart,"

The Executive Mayor of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, Cllr B.P. Shiba, treated more than 95 senior citizens of Silobela to lunch and presented each of them with a blanket each at the Silobela Community Hall last Thursday.
According to the Mayor, this was in support of Mandela Month.
Cllr Shiba said fellow councillors and members of the ANCWL assisted her by identifying the elderly from three wards, 21, 15 and 22.
In her address she said senior citizens play an important role in the community as they know the history of their place and are a source of knowledge and strength.
“Whenever I’m faced with difficult times or challenges, old ladies are some of the people I turn to for guidance and prayer, hence they are close to my heart,” said Cllr Shiba.
Gogo Thoko Mthembu and Lissa Mkhonza said they were very happy to spend the day with the mayor and were thankful for the blankets, as they will really come in handy.Cllr Shiba also said that Silobela and Carolina are not the only places she would be visiting.
Next is Emanzana, formerly known as Badplaas, where she will also treat senior citizens from the area, including Elukwatini and surrounding areas.
Earlier in the day, the mayor visited three day care centres, Malambule, Zamani and Ithemba Lethu where she treated the children with goodie-bags and a blanket per child.
Speaking to the newspaper, Cllr Shiba said she hoped the next mayor after her term would also be able to carry the torch and not forget the young and old.
