The owner of a Standerton butchery, Mr Peter John Mitchell, is in hot water over alleged stock theft and the purchasing and possession of stolen meat.
Mr Mitchell appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 12 July on a charge of possession of stolen property.
Two Ext 6 cattle farmers retrieved the meat of their slaughtered cows at his butchery on 8 July.
According to the police, another employee of the butchery allegedly stole and slaughtered the cows of Messrs Thulani Nkambule and Jabulani Hadebe and sold it for R7 800.
Two alleged accomplices of the worker have been taken into custody, but is yet to appear in court before they can be identified.
