Sassa warned social grant beneficiaries to avoid fraudsters and not accede to loan sharks’ demands by borrowing money.
The agency urged people not to get into false lucrative deals during the festive season.

They must note that the social grant payment is not meant for luxuries or to be used as a trade guarantee for loan sharks’ debts.
Instead, grants are meant to enable vulnerable groups in society to afford basic needs and alleviate poverty.
The agency is adamant that it does not provide financial products such as loans, airtime and electricity.
If any financial agent pretends to be a Sassa official, they must be immediately reported to the nearest police station.
Social grant beneficiaries must not provide their Identity Documents (IDs), social grants payment cards and pin codes to strangers pretending to be officials.
Sassa only operates in offices and not in unannounced door-to-door activities.
