Department of Health hosts health campaign for community of Dundonald

The campaign was held to render services as well as informing the public on health, abuse and violence awareness with various speakers giving presentation on a variety of health related issues.

The Gert Sibande District Department of Health (DoH) hosted a joint stakeholder comprehensive health campaign at Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality in the Dundonald Community Hall on Friday recently.

The event was opened with a welcoming address by Mr S. Mthembu, the counciller of ward 9, and the purpose of the day was delivered by Ms. M. Mahlalela, deputy director of Health Promotion at DoH.

The campaign was held to render services as well as informing the public on health, abuse and violence awareness with various speakers giving presentations on a variety of health-related issues.

The community was informed about the importance of HIV and Aids, tuberculosis testing and taking the medication appropriately by Mr S. Makhanya, who emphasized the importance of male circumcision as well as men’s health.

Const Tryphina Utla from the Mayflower Police addressed the different types of violence and abuse to the community and gave them the pertinent contact details where they can report such incidents.

Mr A.V. Nkosi, gender and transformation manager from DoH, spoke explicitly about the abuse of men within society and the distress they have in reporting abuse to the police.

Ms B. Mkhathswa from SASSA informed the community about the changes to the new SASSA card and the benefits of the new card.

The government stakeholders also exhibited and rendered their services to the community who were in attendance.

The head man of the Mpisikazi Traditional Council, Mr M.E. Ncongwane, concluded the event by delivering a vote of thanks to the Dundonald community for their attendance and also encouraged the government departments to continue the culture of delivering services to the community.
