Firefighters who risk life and limb are honoured
The Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue team in Ermelo are always ready and willing to serve the community in all emergencies.
International Fire Fighters Day was celebrated on Saturday, 5 May.. This day originated from the death of five wildland firefighters, on 2 December 1998 in Australia.
During this tragic event the five firefighters were part of a strike team and were sent to help extinguish a bush fire, when the wind suddenly switched direction causing their truck to engulfs in flames, killing all five members.
The Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue team in Ermelo are always ready and willing to serve the community in all emergencies.
Firefighting is a noble profession, and this demanding job can have a mental and physical strain on our firefighters.
While most people think of firefighters as someone who only runs into burning buildings and extinguishes fires, their job goes far beyond that.
They are often the first responders on accidents scenes, helping at natural disaster scenes and extinguishing wildfires.
