First day of Covid-19 lockdown in Ermelo – Many people out and about

In the queues outside of buildings, only a few people were seen wearing masks and seldom did they adhere to social distancing.

On the first day of the national 21-day lockdown, the streets of Ermelo was as vibrant as a Sunday morning, with groups of people seen out and about buying essentials.

Ermelo Police kicked-off the lockdown with a convoy travelling through Ermelo and Wesselton, before they split up to ensure people were obeying the rules and regulations during the lockdown.

Residents of Ermelo were queuing outside shops, pharmacies and ATM’s.

Some of these places only allowed limited people to enter at a time.

In the queues outside of buildings, only a few people were seen wearing masks and seldom did they adhere to social distancing.

Many vehicles were seen carrying more passengers than the regulations stated.

Tips to improve social distancing:

  • Always keep a distance of at least 1.5m from others
  • Avoid physical greeting someone
  • Practise good hygiene
  • Avoid crown gatherings
  • Stay at home

Ermelo Police are concerned that residents don’t comprehend the seriousness of the situation, especially in regarfs to the social distancing regulation.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to go to town.
