Stakeholders in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipal area enforce Disaster Management Act regulations

Police led the operation together with CALM traffic officers, provincial traffic officers, disaster management teams from the Gert Sibande District Municipality, the South African National Defence Force and the Public Order Policing Unit.

Several stakeholders in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipal (CALM) area took part in a joint Covid-19 operation at Nhlazatshe (crossing), aimed at the enforcement of the Disaster Management Act regulations.

Police led the operation together with CALM traffic officers, provincial traffic officers, disaster management teams from the Gert Sibande District Municipality, the South African National Defence Force and the Public Order Policing Unit.

The Executive Mayor of CALM, Councillor Dan Nkosi, also joined the operation in which he pleaded with motorist to play their part in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

CALM’s local economic development team also assisted with the validity of permits.

During the operation, individuals who were found to be in contravention of the regulations as stated in the Disaster Management Act, were issued with fines or arrested by authorities.
